Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting extended clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s best postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
